What are Christmas Sprays?

If you are new to the world of Christmas decor, you are likely wondering what we are talking about when we mention Christmas sprays and picks. Christmas sprays and picks are decorative stems that add height, texture, color, and act as filler in your designs. These might be comprised of glitter stems, berries, foliage, greenery etc. When coordinated with your decor's style and color scheme, they help create a cohesive themed tree style with a real designer touch.

Choosing the Right Picks and Sprays

When selecting picks and sprays for your Christmas tree, consider the overall theme or color scheme you want to achieve. There are various options available, including glittery picks, floral sprays, and themed ornaments. Pick ones that complement your existing ornaments and add a touch of elegance or whimsy to your tree.

What to use them for?

Tree Topper

We LOVE tree tops with big and full spray toppers!! These consist of a variety of Christmas spray strung around the pole at the top of your tree.

To create large, rich “tips,” you will need to consider the following:

  • Choose from 4-5 styles of spray for the top.
  • Shorter spray make great fillers in wreaths, but will not work well at the top of your tree where the goal is to extend the height above the actual greenery of your Christmas tree.
  • When choosing styles, look for spray that provide different textures and colors.
  • You will insert one type at a time, making sure to slide the stems inside the tree.
  • The spray are bendable, so once inserted, you can create the look you want.
  • Once you have defined the styles you want to use, for a tree between 220cm and 270cm, we recommend choosing 4-6 pieces of each style, depending on how full you want the top to be

Filler the tree

You've probably noticed that most designer trees aren't just decorated with ornaments, but rather use a variety of Christmas branches and flowers throughout the body of the tree. They can be combined into groups of flowers and branches to create what we call clusters or inserted as single stems wherever there are holes in your tree. When grouped together, they take up larger areas of your tree, filling more space and creating lots of texture and dimension.

A good rule of thumb with spray groups is to include a group for every 30 cm to 40 cm of the tree, as well as a variety of single stem sprays. For example, a 230 cm tree might include 7 groups and perhaps 3-6 styles of single stem sprays, with 7 pieces each, spread throughout the body of the tree.

Here are some placement tips to help you achieve a balanced and visually appealing look:

  • Start by placing the larger picks or sprays evenly around the tree. These will serve as focal points.
  • Next, distribute the smaller picks or sprays throughout the tree, filling in any gaps or empty spaces.
  • Step back frequently to assess the overall balance and adjust as needed.

Picks and sprays can add depth and dimension to your Christmas tree. Here's how:

  • Place longer picks or sprays towards the back of the tree to create depth.
  • Layer different types of picks and sprays to add dimension. For example, mix glittery picks with floral sprays for a stunning effect.

Once you have placed all the picks and sprays, take a step back and assess the overall look of your tree. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure a balanced and visually pleasing display.

In wreaths

Another way to use Christmas spray is to insert them into wreaths. Again, these create the texture and dimension that give your decorations the WOW effect!
